The year is 2013 and the world as we know it has come to an end. Some say the ancient Mayans predicted it, others say it was just a coincidence, but so many have died few are left who remember.
On Dec 21st 2012 a terrible virus was unleashed upon the Earth, but this was merely a stop on the way to hell, not the beginning…. The Chinese and Russian governments fearing the military show of force so close to home by the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan started a secret program to engineer biological weapons that could be used to turn civilians into raging beasts or worse. The program had met with some success being tested in the Chechen War on Islamic militants.
The purpose behind the program was to not just kill the enemy but turn their own people against them. By transforming their genetic code into a weapon of war not only would they eventually die but the infected would kill more of the enemy themselves. This would occupy the enemy military force which would attempt to contain the outbreaks and civilian unrest. The Russian-Chinese Coalition (RCC) predicted if used against the United States this would cause the US military force to be sufficiently weakened that the US would be more manageable on both a world political stage and militarily. What no one was expecting was a force outside of the RCC to be organized and insane enough to unleash it upon the world.
During the second Chechen war Al-Qaeda managed to capture over 100lbs of the viral liquid during an ambush of a Russian convoy. This priceless cargo was smuggled into a secret facility in the tribal region of Pakistan shortly after the fall of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
In this remote and largely ungoverned Pakistani tribal area Al-Qaeda went to work. With direction from The Emir to combine the weapon with normal human DNA Al-Qaeda wanted the virus to be more infectious and able to easily spread beyond the release zone. The Emir and Al-Qaeda believed this was their opportunity to end the war once and for all. Sending the west back into the stone age and allowing a new world order to be created.
Towards the end of 2011 Al-Qaeda was successfull in splicing the virus with normal human DNA. This new virus had a much longer lifespan and was highly contagious. This breakthrough allowed Al-Qaeda to set in motion a follow-up attack to 9/11 that the world would never forget.
The Scourge, as it became known within Al-Qaeda, was smuggled into the US through Mexican drug cartels during early Dec 2012. Al-Qaeda executed their plan with The Scourge upon water supplies throughout the US and western nations on Dec 21st 2012. With air travel and the globalized economy the virus quickly spiraled out of control, exceeding The Emirs wildest dreams. Within a few short months the entire world was exposed to The Scourge. Martial law has been declared in every country across the globe and civilization sits on the brink of collapse.
Today society has nearly completely broken down, the infected roam the world and outnumber the few left alive. Pockets of civilization hole up around the planet trying to survive and weather the storm. These isolated pockets are nearly completely dependent upon themselves. Courageous and highly trained groups of mercenaries explore the deadly ruins of civilization to salvage critical supplies and provide defense for these settlements. Our future is in their hands.
